Who is this scheme for?
12+ crore poor and vulnerable families — health cover up to ₹5 lakh per family per year for secondary & tertiary hospitalisation. Sept 2024 expanded to all senior citizens 70+ irrespective of income.
Benefit amount & what you get
₹5 lakh/year cashless treatment at 27,000+ empanelled hospitals (public + private). Covers 1,949 medical procedures including cancer, cardiac, ortho, neuro. No premium paid by beneficiary. Pre + 3 days admission + 15 days post-hospitalisation expenses covered.
Eligibility criteria
SECC-2011 deprived families OR senior citizens 70+ (from Sept 2024). Check eligibility on PMJAY portal with mobile number or ration card.
How to apply — step by step
Visit pmjay.gov.in → 'Am I Eligible?' → enter mobile + OTP → enter ration card / name → if eligible, generate Ayushman Card via Aadhaar eKYC. Card downloadable from BIS portal or via PMJAY mobile app.
