RRB Technician Grade-3 (CEN 02/2025) is a recruitment notification issued by the Railway Recruitment Boards under the Ministry of Railways for technical positions across Indian Railways. This exam selects candidates for Technician Grade-3 posts in various technical trades requiring ITI certification. The recruitment covers multiple railway zones including Northern, Southern, Eastern, Western, and other regional railways. Selected candidates will work in workshops, maintenance depots, and operational units of Indian Railways in technical roles. This is an All India examination conducted by 21 RRBs simultaneously. Technician Grade-3 is an entry-level technical position in the Pay Level 2 structure of 7th Central Pay Commission.

Educational Qualification

• Minimum Qualification: ITI (Industrial Training Institute) pass certificate in relevant trade
• Eligible Trades: Electrician, Fitter, Welder, Machinist, Electronics Mechanic, Wireman, Refrigeration & AC Mechanic, Mechanic Motor Vehicle, Turner, COPA, Draughtsman (Mechanical/Civil), Instrument Mechanic, and other notified trades
• Recognition: ITI certificate must be from NCVT (National Council for Vocational Training) or SCVT (State Council for Vocational Training) recognized institute
• Duration: Completion of ITI course duration as per the trade requirements (1 year/2 years)

How to Apply Online

1. Visit Official Website: Go to the official RRB portal www.rrbapply.gov.in or respective RRB zonal websites
2. New Registration: Click on 'New Registration' link and provide basic details (name, date of birth, mobile number, email ID)
3. Verify Mobile & Email: Enter OTP sent to registered mobile number and email address for verification
4. Login with Credentials: Use auto-generated registration number and password to login
5. Fill Application Form: Complete all sections including personal details, educational qualifications, trade preference, RRB preference, upload photograph and signature (JPG format, specific size limits)
6. Pay Application Fee: Make payment through online mode (net banking/credit card/debit card/UPI) or offline mode (SBI challan)
7. Submit Application: Review all details carefully and submit the application form
8. Take Printout: Download and save the application form and fee receipt for future reference

Selection Stages

1. Computer Based Test (CBT) Stage-1: Initial screening test covering Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Science, and General Awareness on Current Affairs. This is a qualifying stage to shortlist candidates for Stage-2 based on normalized scores across different sessions.

1. Computer Based Test (CBT) Stage-2: Advanced level examination for candidates who qualify Stage-1. Contains questions from relevant trade-specific technical knowledge along with general subjects. Marks obtained in this stage determine final merit ranking.

1. Document Verification (DV): Candidates shortlisted based on CBT Stage-2 performance are called for verification of original documents including educational certificates, ITI mark sheets, caste certificate, age proof, and other relevant documents at designated RRB offices.

1. Medical Examination: After successful document verification, candidates undergo comprehensive medical fitness examination as per Railway standards including vision test, physical fitness assessment, and general health check-up by Railway Medical Board.

1. Final Merit List: Based on performance in CBT Stage-2, successful document verification, and fitness in medical examination, final merit list is prepared category-wise and zone-wise for appointment to Technician Grade-3 posts.

Technician Grade-3 employees in Indian Railways have structured career progression through departmental examinations and seniority. Promotion path typically progresses from Technician Grade-3 → Technician Grade-2 → Technician Grade-1 → Senior Technician → Junior Engineer → Assistant Divisional Engineer and higher technical positions based on performance, experience, and qualifying departmental exams. With continued service and appropriate qualifications, employees can reach supervisory and gazetted officer positions in the Railway technical cadre.

RRB Technician Grade-3 admit cards are released approximately 4 days before the scheduled examination date on the official RRB websites. Candidates can download their admit card by logging into the RRB portal using their registration number and date of birth. The admit card contains important details including exam date, time, venue address, reporting time, and instructions. Candidates must carry a printed copy of the admit card along with valid photo ID proof (Aadhar, PAN, Driving License, Voter ID) to the examination centre for entry.

RRB declares Technician Grade-3 results in multiple stages - CBT Stage-1 result is published approximately 45-60 days after the exam completion, followed by CBT Stage-2 result within 60 days of that exam. Results are published on respective RRB zonal websites with candidate login access showing individual scores, qualifying status, and normalization details. Final appointment list is published after document verification and medical examination, usually 12-18 months from the initial notification. For CBT Stage-1, general category cutoff typically ranges between 40-50 normalized marks out of 100, while SC/ST cutoffs range from 30-38 marks and OBC from 35-45 marks. CBT Stage-2 cutoffs are higher, with UR candidates needing 100-130 marks out of 200, OBC candidates 85-115 marks, and SC/ST candidates 70-95 marks depending on vacancy availability and competition level.
