Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited under the Ministry of Coal, invites applications for the Mining Sirdar position across its coalfield operations in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Mining Sirdars are frontline supervisory personnel responsible for overseeing coal extraction operations, ensuring safety compliance, and managing mine workers at operational sites. This is a Group C post with significant responsibility in underground and opencast mining operations. Selected candidates will be deployed at various NCL projects including Nigahi, Jayant, Dudhichua, Amlohri, Bina, Khadia, Krishnashila, and Kakri areas. The position requires technical expertise in mining operations and holds statutory recognition under the Mines Act.

Educational Qualification

• Essential: ITI (Industrial Training Institute) Certificate in Mining/Mine Surveyor/Fitter/Electrician/Mechanic/Turner/Machinist trade from recognized institution
• OR National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) in Mining trade
• Mandatory Certification: Valid Mining Sirdar Certificate (First Class or Second Class) issued by Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) under Mines Vocational Training Rules
• Additional Requirement: Must possess fitness certificate from authorized medical authority for underground mining work
• Candidates awaiting DGMS certification at the time of application may apply but must produce certificate before joining

Selection Stages

1. Written Examination: Computer-based test covering technical knowledge of mining operations, safety regulations, mining machinery, mine surveying, ventilation systems, and general awareness. Questions based on ITI curriculum and Mining Sirdar certification syllabus. Duration: 2 hours. This is the primary screening stage.

1. Practical/Skill Test: Shortlisted candidates from written exam will undergo practical assessment of mining operations knowledge, ability to read mine plans, use of surveying instruments, understanding of safety equipment, and on-site problem-solving in mining scenarios. Conducted at NCL training centers.

1. Document Verification: Candidates qualifying practical test must present original certificates including ITI certificate, DGMS Mining Sirdar certificate, age proof, caste certificate, PwBD certificate (if applicable), and recent medical fitness certificate for underground work.

1. Medical Examination: Comprehensive medical fitness test conducted by authorized Coal India medical board to ensure candidate meets physical standards for underground mining work including vision, hearing, respiratory function, and cardiovascular fitness.

1. Final Merit List: Based on combined performance in written exam (70% weightage) and practical test (30% weightage), final merit list prepared category-wise and appointment letters issued to selected candidates.

Mining Sirdars in NCL have structured career progression within the mining operations cadre. After gaining 3-5 years of experience and clearing departmental examinations, Mining Sirdars can be promoted to Mining Mate (Level-6), then to Assistant Foreman/Deputy Overman (Level-7), Overman (Level-8), and subsequently to Mining Foreman/Manager Grade positions (Level-9 and above). With additional qualifications like Mine Manager Certificate of Competency from DGMS and completion of service requirements, one can reach senior management positions including Deputy General Manager and General Manager levels in NCL's operational hierarchy. NCL also encourages internal candidates to pursue higher mining engineering qualifications for accelerated career growth.

Admit cards for the NCL Mining Sirdar Written Examination will be released approximately 7-10 days before the scheduled exam date on NCL's official website (www.nclcil.in). Candidates must download their admit card by logging into the recruitment portal using their registration number and date of birth. The admit card will contain important details including candidate's name, roll number, photograph, exam venue address, reporting time, and examination instructions. No postal dispatch of admit cards will be done. Candidates must bring a printed copy of the admit card along with valid original photo ID proof (Aadhaar/PAN/Driving License/Voter ID) to the examination center.

The written examination result will be declared within 4-6 weeks after the exam date on NCL's official website. Category-wise merit lists will be published showing roll numbers of qualified candidates. Shortlisted candidates will receive SMS and email notifications regarding practical test schedule. After practical test and document verification, the final selection list will be published within 2-3 months from the practical test date. Selected candidates will be intimated about their selection and joining formalities through registered email. All result-related updates and merit lists can be tracked on the NCL careers portal using application/registration number.

Based on previous NCL Mining Sirdar recruitments, the qualifying cutoff typically ranges between 55-65 marks out of 140 for General category, 45-55 marks for OBC category, and 40-50 marks for SC/ST categories. The actual cutoff varies depending on exam difficulty level, number of vacancies, and total number of applicants. In recent years, safe scores for final selection have been around 70-80 marks for General, 60-70 for OBC, and 55-65 for SC/ST categories when combined with good practical test performance. Candidates scoring above these ranges generally have higher chances of selection.
