The Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission (BPSSC) conducts recruitment for Home Guard positions across Bihar state. Home Guards are volunteer force members who assist regular police in maintaining law and order, traffic management, disaster management, and community policing activities. This recruitment is organized by BPSSC to fill Home Guard vacancies in various districts of Bihar. Candidates with ITI qualification in the age group of 18-35 years are eligible to apply. Selected candidates will serve as uniformed volunteers supporting Bihar Police in various duties including ceremonial functions, crowd control, and emergency response. The position offers an opportunity to serve the community while maintaining regular employment or education.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification

• Minimum Qualification: ITI (Industrial Training Institute) certificate in any trade from a recognized institution
• Candidates with Higher Secondary (10+2) or equivalent qualification are also eligible
• The ITI certificate must be from an institution recognized by NCVT/SCVT
• Candidates appearing in final year/semester are generally not eligible

Selection Stages

1. Written Examination: Objective type written test covering General Knowledge, General Science, Mathematics, Mental Ability and Hindi Language with questions based on 10+2 level syllabus.

1. Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Qualifying physical standards test including running, high jump, and physical measurements. Candidates must meet minimum chest measurement and height requirements as specified.

1. Document Verification: Original documents verification including educational certificates, category certificates, domicile certificate, date of birth proof, and character certificate from local police/gazetted officer.

1. Medical Examination: Comprehensive medical fitness test to ensure candidates meet health standards required for Home Guard duties including vision test, fitness certificate from authorized medical board.

1. Final Merit List: Merit list prepared based on marks obtained in written examination for candidates who successfully clear PET and medical examination. Selected candidates called for joining formalities and training.

Payment Mode: Direct Bank Transfer (DBT) on monthly basis

Bihar Home Guards serve on voluntary basis with honorarium, so traditional career progression does not apply. However, experienced Home Guards receive preference in Bihar Police Constable recruitments and other state government job vacancies. Home Guards with exemplary service records may be awarded medals, certificates and leadership roles within the Home Guard organization. Long-serving members often get opportunities to serve in specialized units like disaster management, traffic control, and VIP security details.

BPSSC releases admit cards for Home Guard written examination approximately 10-15 days before the exam date on the official website www.bpssc.bih.nic.in. Candidates must download their admit card by logging in with registration number and password/date of birth. The admit card contains important details including exam centre address, reporting time, exam date, candidate's photograph and important instructions. No physical admit card is sent by post. Candidates must bring a printed copy of admit card along with valid photo ID proof (Aadhaar/PAN/Driving License/Voter ID) to the examination centre.

BPSSC declares Home Guard written examination results within 60-90 days after the exam on the official website. Results are published in PDF format containing roll numbers of qualified candidates. Category-wise cutoff marks are also published along with results. Candidates can check their individual scorecard by logging into the candidate portal. Qualified candidates for Physical Efficiency Test are intimated through separate notification. Final merit list after PET and medical examination is published on the website with selected candidates' roll numbers and allotted districts for joining.

Typical cutoff marks for BPSSC Home Guard written examination vary between 40-55% depending on difficulty level and category. General category candidates typically need 55-65 marks out of 150 (37-43%), OBC candidates around 50-60 marks (33-40%), and SC/ST candidates around 45-55 marks (30-37%). Cutoff marks fluctuate based on total number of applicants, exam difficulty, and number of vacancies. Previous year cutoffs show General category scoring around 60-70 marks, while reserved categories score 5-10 marks lower in respective categories.
