Selection Stages

1. Preliminary Examination (Objective Type): The first screening stage consisting of two objective-type papers - General Studies-I and General Studies-II (CSAT). Candidates must qualify both papers with minimum qualifying marks. Only those who clear the cutoff proceed to Mains examination. This stage is qualifying in nature.

Main Examination (Descriptive Type): Candidates shortlisted from Prelims appear for the Mains exam consisting of 8 papers - 6 General Studies papers, 1 Essay paper, and 2 optional subject papers (2 papers of chosen optional). This is the merit-determining stage where marks are counted for final selection. Candidates scoring sufficient marks are called for Interview.

1. Personality Test/Interview: Shortlisted candidates from Mains are called for a personality test before the UPPSC Board. This tests the candidate's personality, communication skills, presence of mind, and suitability for civil services. The interview carries 100 marks.

1. Document Verification: After the interview, detailed verification of all educational certificates, caste certificates, domicile certificate, and other relevant documents is conducted. Any discrepancy may lead to disqualification.

1. Medical Examination: Finally selected candidates undergo a thorough medical examination to ensure physical and mental fitness for administrative duties as per government standards.
