1. Preliminary Examination (Screening Test): An objective-type examination consisting of two compulsory papers (General Studies Paper-I and General Studies Paper-II/CSAT) conducted on the same day. This is a qualifying exam to shortlist candidates for the Main examination. Only Paper-I marks are considered for merit ranking, while Paper-II is qualifying in nature (minimum 33% required).

1. Main Examination (Written Test): Candidates who qualify the Preliminary exam are called for the Main examination, which consists of six conventional (descriptive) papers covering General Studies (4 papers), General Hindi (1 paper), and Essay Writing (1 paper). The Main exam tests in-depth knowledge and writing skills of candidates.

1. Interview/Personality Test: Candidates shortlisted based on Main examination marks are called for Interview/Personality Test conducted by the UPPSC board. The interview assesses the candidate's personality, communication skills, general awareness, decision-making ability, and suitability for civil services.

1. Document Verification: Selected candidates undergo thorough document verification where original certificates of educational qualifications, age proof, caste certificate, domicile certificate, and other relevant documents are verified by the Commission.
