The SSC GD Constable recruitment is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission to select candidates for the post of Constable (General Duty) in Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), NIA, SSF, and Rifleman (GD) in Assam Rifles. This is an All India recruitment drive open to candidates across all states and union territories. The SSC GD Constable Answer Key 2026 has been released on the official website ssc.gov.in, allowing candidates to download their response sheets and raise objections if required. Successful candidates will be deployed in paramilitary forces including BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, SSB, NIA, SSF and Assam Rifles. The selection process involves Computer Based Examination, Physical Efficiency Test, Physical Standard Test, and Medical Examination. This is one of the largest recruitment drives conducted by SSC annually, offering employment opportunities to lakhs of youth across India.

Upper age limit for male candidates can extend up to 25 years and for female candidates up to 25 years as per specific provisions.

Nationality

A candidate must be either:

• A citizen of India, or
• A subject of Nepal, or
• A subject of Bhutan, or
• A Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1st January 1962 with intention of permanent settlement, or
• A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia and Vietnam with intention of permanent settlement in India.

Candidates belonging to categories (2), (3), (4) and (5) must produce Certificate of Eligibility issued by Government of India.

How to Apply Online

1. Visit the official SSC website at ssc.gov.in or respective Regional SSC website
2. Click on the 'Login' tab and register if you are a new user by providing basic details (Name, Date of Birth, Email ID, Mobile Number)
3. Note down the Registration Number and Password received via email/SMS
4. Login with Registration Number and Password
5. Fill Part-I of the application form with personal details, educational qualification, experience, etc.
6. Upload scanned photograph (4-12 KB, JPEG format) and signature (1-12 KB, JPEG format) as per specifications
7. Fill Part-II of the application form with preferences of Posts, Examination Centre, etc.
8. Verify all details entered and proceed to fee payment
9. Pay application fee through online mode (BHIM UPI, Net Banking, Debit/Credit Card) or offline mode (SBI Challan)
10. Submit the application form and take printout for future reference

Selection Stages

1. Computer Based Examination (CBE): Objective type examination of 80 questions for 160 marks covering General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Knowledge & General Awareness, Elementary Mathematics, and English/Hindi. Duration: 60 minutes. This is the screening test to shortlist candidates for PET/PST.

1. Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Qualifying events including Race (Male: 5 km in 24 minutes, Female: 1.6 km in 8.5 minutes). This stage is qualifying in nature and marks are not counted for final merit.

1. Physical Standard Test (PST): Measurement of height, chest (for males), and weight as per prescribed standards. Candidates failing to meet the required physical standards are rejected at this stage.

1. Medical Examination: Comprehensive medical examination conducted by designated Medical Boards to assess fitness for service in CAPFs. Candidates must meet vision standards, physical fitness parameters, and be free from medical conditions that render them unfit.

1. Document Verification: Verification of all original certificates including educational qualification, date of birth, category certificate, domicile, experience certificates, etc. Any discrepancy leads to cancellation of candidature.

1. Final Merit List: Final merit is prepared on the basis of marks obtained in Computer Based Examination only. Candidates are allocated to various forces based on merit, preference, and vacancies available.

Computer Based Examination Pattern

CBE (Single Stage)

Negative Marking: 0.50 marks deducted for each wrong answer.

Compensatory Time: Candidates with scribe are allowed compensatory time of 20 minutes (Total: 80 minutes).

Medium of Examination: Questions in English/Hindi (bilingual) except for English Language section.

There is no Prelims and Mains structure for SSC GD. Only one-tier CBE followed by PET/PST and Medical.

Career growth in CAPFs follows a structured promotion hierarchy. A Constable (GD) can be promoted to Head Constable, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), Sub-Inspector (SI), Inspector, Assistant Commandant, and further to higher ranks based on departmental examinations, seniority, performance, and vacancies. Promotions are typically time-bound with opportunities for specialization in various wings like Intelligence, Dog Squad, Motor Transport, etc. Officers can reach Senior Administrative Grade positions through Limited Departmental Competitive Examinations (LDCE) and merit-based selections throughout their career spanning 30-35 years.

The SSC GD Constable Admit Card is released approximately 2-3 weeks before the Computer Based Examination on the official website of respective Regional SSC offices. Candidates must download the admit card by logging in with their Registration Number and Password/Date of Birth. The admit card contains important details like examination date, shift timing, reporting time, examination centre address, candidate's photograph, signature, and important instructions. No candidate will be allowed to appear for the examination without a valid admit card and original photo ID proof.

SSC GD Constable results are declared in multiple stages. The Computer Based Examination result is announced first, containing roll numbers of qualified candidates who are eligible for PET/PST. After completion of PET/PST and Medical Examination, the final result is declared containing roll numbers of recommended candidates along with their marks, category, and allocated force. Results are published on the official SSC website and can be checked by entering Registration Number/Roll Number. Candidates can also download their individual scorecards showing subject-wise and overall marks obtained.

SSC GD Constable cutoff marks vary significantly across categories and are determined by factors like total vacancies, number of candidates appeared, difficulty level of exam, and reservation norms. Typically, General category cutoff ranges between 140-155 marks out of 160, OBC cutoff is 135-150 marks, SC cutoff is 125-140 marks, and ST cutoff is 115-130 marks. Female candidates generally have slightly lower cutoffs compared to male candidates in respective categories. Cutoff marks are published along with the result declaration and represent the minimum qualifying marks required to be eligible for PET/PST stage.
