Selection Process

Selection Stages

  1. Computer Based Test - Stage I (CBT-1): First stage screening examination consisting of objective type multiple choice questions covering Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Science, and General Awareness. This is a qualifying exam and normalized marks are used for shortlisting candidates for CBT-2.
  1. Computer Based Test - Stage II (CBT-2): Second stage examination for shortlisted candidates from CBT-1. This test covers similar subjects but with more trade-specific technical questions and higher difficulty level. Marks obtained in CBT-2 are considered for final merit list preparation.
  1. Document Verification (DV): Candidates shortlisted based on CBT-2 performance are called for document verification in order of merit. Candidates must produce all original certificates including educational qualification, date of birth proof, community certificate, ITI marksheets, and other relevant documents for verification.
  1. Medical Examination: After successful document verification, candidates undergo medical fitness examination as per Railway standards (A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, C1, C2 categories). Medical fitness standards depend on the post and department.
  1. Final Merit List: Final selection is based on the normalized marks obtained in CBT-2 subject to qualifying all stages. Selected candidates are allocated to various Railway zones/units based on merit, preference, and vacancy availability.

Note: There is no interview/personality test for Technician Grade-3 posts. Candidates eligible under PwD category are also required to produce disability certificate from competent medical authority.
