The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) Group D recruitment (CEN 09/2025) is conducted to fill various Level 1 positions across Indian Railways zones. This is an All India examination for posts including Track Maintainer Grade-IV, Helper/Assistant in various departments, and Assistant Pointsman. The recruitment process is managed by 21 RRBs across India and selects candidates for safety-critical and operational support roles in Indian Railways. Group D positions form the foundational workforce of Indian Railways, responsible for maintenance, assistance, and operational support activities. The Computer Based Test (CBT) Stage 1 is the preliminary screening examination for this massive recruitment drive.

How to Apply

2. Click on the "CEN 09/2025 - Group D Recruitment" notification link
3. Read the detailed notification carefully and check eligibility criteria
4. Click on "Apply Online" or "New Registration" link
5. Complete Basic Registration by providing name, date of birth, mobile number, email ID and create password
6. An OTP will be sent to registered mobile/email for verification
7. After verification, login with credentials and complete the Application Form with personal details, educational qualification, category, post preference, choice of RRB zone
8. Upload scanned documents: recent photograph (20-50 KB), signature (10-40 KB), educational certificates (50-100 KB) in prescribed format
9. Make payment of application fee through online mode (Net Banking/Credit Card/Debit Card/UPI) or offline mode (SBI Challan)
10. Submit the application form and take printout of the application for future reference
11. Note down Registration Number for all future correspondence

Selection Process Stages

1. Computer Based Test (CBT) Stage 1 - Objective type screening examination covering Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Science, and General Awareness. Candidates are shortlisted based on merit and category-wise cutoff marks.

1. Physical Efficiency Test (PET) - Qualifying in nature (not marks-based). Candidates must complete specified physical tasks within time limits to demonstrate physical fitness for railway operational work. Tasks typically include carrying weights, running, etc.

1. Computer Based Test (CBT) Stage 2 (if applicable for certain posts) - Advanced level examination with subject-specific questions relevant to the post applied for.

1. Document Verification (DV) - Original certificates verification including educational qualification, age proof, caste certificate, PwBD certificate (if applicable), and other relevant documents as per eligibility.

1. Medical Examination - Comprehensive medical fitness test conducted by Railway Medical Board to ensure candidates meet prescribed medical standards for railway service including vision, hearing, physical fitness, and other parameters.

1. Final Merit List - Based on normalized marks in CBT Stage 1 (and CBT Stage 2 if applicable), subject to qualifying PET and clearing medical examination. Final selection is made as per vacancy and reservation rules.

RRB Group D employees (Level 1) have structured promotion opportunities within Indian Railways. After completing minimum service tenure and passing departmental examinations, they can be promoted to Level 2 positions such as Technician Grade-III or similar posts. With experience and continuous skill development through Railway training institutes, employees can progress to supervisory roles (Level 3-5) and eventually to technical or administrative positions (Level 6-7) through internal promotions, departmental exams, and limited departmental competitive examinations (LDCE). Career progression typically takes 20-30 years to reach senior technical or Group C positions with corresponding salary increases and responsibilities.

The RRB Group D CBT Stage 1 Admit Card will be released approximately 4 days before the scheduled examination date on the official websites of respective RRBs. Candidates must download the admit card by logging into their account using registration number and date of birth. The admit card contains crucial information including examination date, shift timing, exam centre address, important instructions, and candidate details. Candidates must carry a printed copy of the admit card along with original valid photo ID proof (Aadhaar Card/Voter ID/Driving License/Passport) to the examination centre. No entry will be allowed without admit card and valid ID proof.

RRB Group D CBT Stage 1 results are typically declared 4-6 weeks after the completion of all examination shifts. Results are published on official RRB websites in PDF format containing roll numbers of qualified candidates. Due to multi-shift examination, normalization of marks is applied as per RRB formula. Candidates can check their individual scorecard by logging into their account using registration credentials. The scorecard displays subject-wise marks, total marks, normalized marks (if applicable), cutoff marks, and qualification status. Typical indicative cutoffs: UR category 40-50 marks out of 100, OBC 35-45 marks, SC 30-40 marks, ST 28-38 marks, and EWS 38-48 marks. Actual cutoffs depend on factors including total vacancies, number of applicants, exam difficulty level, and normalization parameters. Zone-wise cutoffs may differ, with metropolitan zones typically having higher cutoffs. Candidates are advised to aim for 55-60+ marks for safe qualification in UR category and proportionately for other categories.
