Selection Process
The RPSC RAS selection follows a three-stage process:
- Preliminary Examination (Objective Type) - A screening test consisting of 200 multiple-choice questions covering General Knowledge and General Science. This is a qualifying exam and marks are not counted for final merit. Candidates qualifying in Prelims advance to Mains based on a predetermined cutoff.
- Main Examination (Descriptive Type) - A comprehensive written exam consisting of four compulsory papers covering General Studies (3 papers) and General Hindi/General English. Each paper is of 200 marks and 3 hours duration. Performance in Mains contributes to final merit ranking.
- Personal Interview - Shortlisted candidates from Mains are called for personality test/interview conducted by RPSC. The interview carries 100 marks and assesses candidate's personality, communication skills, general awareness, and suitability for administrative services.
- Document Verification - Candidates provisionally selected after interview must appear for detailed document verification. Original certificates of education, age, category, domicile, and other eligibility criteria are verified.
- Medical Examination - Finally selected candidates undergo medical fitness examination as per government standards. Candidates must be physically and mentally fit for administrative services.
- Final Merit List - Final selection is based on combined marks of Mains (800 marks) and Interview (100 marks). Separate merit lists are prepared for different services based on candidate preferences and vacancy distribution.
