Educational Qualification

Selection Process

The selection process comprises the following stages:

1. Computer Based Test (CBT): Single-stage online objective type exam covering technical subjects, general awareness, reasoning, and quantitative aptitude. Candidates are shortlisted based on merit and category-wise cutoff marks.

1. Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates from CBT are called for document verification. Original documents including educational certificates, category certificates, age proof, identity proof must be produced.

1. Medical Examination: Candidates who successfully complete document verification undergo medical fitness examination as per PGCIL standards. Candidates must be medically fit for field duties.

1. Final Merit List: Final selection is based on marks obtained in CBT, subject to qualifying document verification and medical examination. Merit list is prepared category-wise.

1. Pre-Employment Training: Selected candidates undergo mandatory training period as Diploma Trainees before regular appointment on completion of training satisfactorily.

Admit Cards for the Computer Based Test are released approximately 10-15 days before the exam date on the official PGCIL careers portal. Candidates must download the admit card by logging into their registered account using application number and password. No admit card is sent by post. The admit card contains exam date, time, venue, and important instructions that must be followed during the examination.

Results of the CBT are declared approximately 3-4 weeks after the examination on the official PGCIL website. Candidates can check their results by entering registration number or roll number. Category-wise merit lists and cutoff marks are published. Shortlisted candidates are intimated via email/SMS for subsequent document verification. Final selection list is published after completion of all selection stages including medical examination.

Typical CBT Cutoff Marks (out of 160) - Indicative: General/EWS category cutoffs range between 80-95 marks, OBC-NCL between 75-88 marks, and SC/ST between 65-78 marks depending on difficulty level and number of vacancies. Cutoff marks vary each year based on exam difficulty, number of candidates, and vacancy positions. Discipline-wise cutoffs may also differ with Electrical typically having higher cutoffs than other disciplines.
