Educational Qualification
- For Graduate Apprentices: Full-time Diploma in Engineering from AICTE approved institution in relevant disciplines including Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science/IT, and Instrumentation Engineering
- For Technician Apprentices: ITI Certificate in relevant trades from NCVT recognized institute
- Minimum 50% aggregate marks in diploma/ITI for UR/OBC/EWS candidates; 45% for SC/ST candidates
- All qualifications must be from recognized Indian boards/universities

Selection Process
Selection Stages
- Merit List Preparation: Candidates are shortlisted based on percentage of marks obtained in qualifying examination (Diploma/ITI). Merit list is prepared category-wise and trade-wise based on academic performance.
- Written Test/Skill Test (if applicable): For certain technical trades, NCL may conduct written aptitude test or practical skill assessment test covering basic technical knowledge, reasoning ability, and numerical aptitude relevant to the trade.
- Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates are called for verification of original documents including educational certificates, date of birth proof, caste certificate, domicile certificate, and other relevant documents. Candidates failing to produce original documents are disqualified.
- Medical Examination: Selected candidates must undergo pre-employment medical examination at designated medical centers. Candidates must be medically fit as per Coal India Limited medical standards for underground/opencast mining operations.
- Final Selection: Final merit list is prepared based on overall performance in all stages. Selected candidates are issued appointment letters specifying training location, stipend details, and joining formalities.
- Engagement as Apprentice: Selected candidates join as apprentices for one year training period and upon successful completion receive National Apprenticeship Certificate issued by NCVT/Regional Directorate of Skill Development.

Admit Card
Admit cards for the written test/skill test (if conducted) will be released approximately 10-15 days before the examination date on the official NCL recruitment portal.
