NCL Apprentice Recruitment 2026

Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited under the Ministry of Coal, Government of India, has announced recruitment for 1607 Apprentice positions across various trades for the year 2026. This recruitment is conducted under the Apprentices Act, 1961 to provide practical training to diploma holders and ITI certificate holders in coal mining and allied operations. Candidates will undergo one year of apprenticeship training at NCL's coal mining projects located primarily in Singrauli coalfields of Madhya Pradesh and Sonbhadra coalfields of Uttar Pradesh. Upon successful completion of apprenticeship, candidates receive a National Apprenticeship Certificate and may be considered for regular employment based on organizational requirements. This is an excellent opportunity for young engineering diploma and ITI pass-outs to gain hands-on experience in India's largest coal-producing company.

Educational Qualification

• For Graduate Apprentices: Full-time Diploma in Engineering from AICTE approved institution in relevant disciplines including Mining Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science/IT, and Instrumentation Engineering
• For Technician Apprentices: ITI Certificate in relevant trades from NCVT recognized institute
• Minimum 50% aggregate marks in diploma/ITI for UR/OBC/EWS candidates; 45% for SC/ST candidates
• All qualifications must be from recognized Indian boards/universities

3. Click on "Apply Online" button and register using valid email ID and mobile number
4. Verify your email and mobile through OTP received
5. Login using registration credentials and fill the online application form completely
6. Upload scanned copies of photograph (20-50 KB), signature (10-20 KB), educational certificates, caste certificate (if applicable), and other required documents in prescribed format (JPG/PDF)
7. Pay the application fee through online mode (Debit Card/Credit Card/Net Banking/UPI)
8. Review all filled details carefully and submit the application form
9. Take printout of the application form and fee receipt for future reference
10. No need to send hard copy unless specifically mentioned in notification

Selection Stages

1. Merit List Preparation: Candidates are shortlisted based on percentage of marks obtained in qualifying examination (Diploma/ITI). Merit list is prepared category-wise and trade-wise based on academic performance.

1. Written Test/Skill Test (if applicable): For certain technical trades, NCL may conduct written aptitude test or practical skill assessment test covering basic technical knowledge, reasoning ability, and numerical aptitude relevant to the trade.

1. Document Verification: Shortlisted candidates are called for verification of original documents including educational certificates, date of birth proof, caste certificate, domicile certificate, and other relevant documents. Candidates failing to produce original documents are disqualified.

1. Medical Examination: Selected candidates must undergo pre-employment medical examination at designated medical centers. Candidates must be medically fit as per Coal India Limited medical standards for underground/opencast mining operations.

1. Final Selection: Final merit list is prepared based on overall performance in all stages. Selected candidates are issued appointment letters specifying training location, stipend details, and joining formalities.

1. Engagement as Apprentice: Selected candidates join as apprentices for one year training period and upon successful completion receive National Apprenticeship Certificate issued by NCVT/Regional Directorate of Skill Development.

NCL apprentices who successfully complete training and perform well have opportunities for absorption as regular employees based on organizational requirements and vacancies. After joining as Junior Engineer/Technician, career progression follows Coal India Limited's structured promotion policy through E1→E2→E3→E4 grades to reach senior positions like Area Manager, Mine Manager, and General Manager over 25-30 years of service. Performance-based fast-track promotions and opportunities for higher education sponsorship are also available.

Admit cards for the written test/skill test (if conducted) will be released approximately 10-15 days before the examination date on the official NCL recruitment portal. Candidates must login using registration credentials to download their admit card. The admit card contains examination venue details, reporting time, roll number, and important instructions. No hard copy of admit card will be sent by post, and candidates must carry printed admit card along with valid photo ID proof to the examination center.

NCL will declare the selection result on its official website within 4-6 weeks after completion of document verification and medical examination. The result will contain roll numbers/registration numbers of selected candidates along with merit list and category-wise cutoff marks. Selected candidates will receive appointment letters via email or registered post with joining formalities and training location details.

The cutoff for NCL Apprentice selection is based on percentage of marks in qualifying diploma/ITI examination. Typical cutoff ranges are: UR category 65-75%, OBC 60-70%, SC 55-65%, ST 50-60%. Cutoff varies based on number of applications, vacancies in specific trades, and seat availability at training locations. Mining and Electrical trades typically have higher cutoffs compared to other disciplines.
