IIA UDC Recruitment 2026 Notification Out - Apply Online for Upper Division Clerk Posts

The Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) has released the recruitment notification for Upper Division Clerk (UDC) positions for the year 2026. IIA is an autonomous research institute under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, dedicated to research in astronomy, astrophysics and related physics. This recruitment is conducted at the All India level to fill 5 Upper Division Clerk vacancies. The selected candidates will be responsible for administrative and clerical duties including file management, data entry, correspondence, record maintenance and general office assistance. How to Apply

5. For new users, click on 'New Registration' and provide basic details like name, email ID, mobile number to generate registration ID and password
6. Login using the registration credentials and complete the application form with personal details, educational qualifications, work experience (if any)
7. Upload scanned copies of recent passport-size photograph (JPG format, 10-50 KB), signature (JPG format, 5-20 KB), and relevant certificates as specified
8. Preview the filled application form and verify all details
9. Proceed to fee payment section and pay the application fee through online mode (Net Banking/Credit Card/Debit Card/UPI)
10. After successful payment, submit the final application form
11. Download and save the application confirmation page and fee payment receipt for future reference
12. No need to send hard copy of application unless specifically mentioned in the notification

Selection Process

The selection for IIA UDC posts will be conducted through the following stages:

1. Computer Based Test (CBT): A written examination covering General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and English Language. The test will be objective type multiple choice questions. Candidates will be shortlisted based on merit in CBT.

1. Skill Test (Typing Test): Shortlisted candidates from CBT will be called for typing test in English or Hindi. The typing speed requirement is typically 35 words per minute in English or 30 words per minute in Hindi on computer. This test is qualifying in nature.

1. Document Verification: Candidates who qualify the Skill Test will be called for document verification where original certificates of educational qualification, age proof, caste certificate, experience certificate (if applicable) and other relevant documents will be verified.

1. Medical Examination: Finally selected candidates will undergo medical examination to ensure fitness for the post as per government standards.

1. Final Merit List: The final merit list will be prepared based on the marks obtained in Computer Based Test only (Skill Test is qualifying). Appointment letters will be issued to selected candidates based on merit and vacancy availability.

Upper Division Clerks at IIA have good prospects for career advancement within the administrative hierarchy of the scientific establishment. With satisfactory service and departmental examinations, UDCs can get promoted to Assistant (Level 6), then to Personal Assistant/Administrative Officer positions and further to supervisory and managerial roles. The career progression is based on seniority-cum-merit, with regular promotional opportunities available every 5-8 years, and employees can also enhance their qualifications through in-service training programs conducted by the institute.

Admit cards for the Computer Based Test will be available for download approximately 10-15 days before the scheduled examination date. Candidates must visit the official IIA website or the recruitment portal and login using their registration number and password to download the admit card. No admit card will be sent by post. The admit card will contain important details including candidate's name, photograph, examination center address, date, time and reporting time along with important instructions for the examination day.

The result of the Computer Based Test will be declared online on the official website within 4-6 weeks after the completion of the examination. Candidates can check their result by entering their registration number and date of birth on the result portal. The final result after skill test and document verification will be published as a merit list with names and roll numbers of selected candidates. Selected candidates will be informed through email/SMS and official website notification.

The cutoff marks for IIA UDC recruitment vary each year depending on factors like number of vacancies, difficulty level of examination and number of candidates appeared. Typically, for UR category candidates, the cutoff ranges between 65-75 marks out of 100, while for OBC it is around 60-70 marks, and for SC/ST categories it ranges from 50-60 marks. Category-wise cutoff lists are published separately, and candidates need to secure minimum qualifying marks in each section as well as overall cutoff to be considered for next stages.
