The selection process consists of multiple stages:

1. Screening of Applications: Initial scrutiny of online applications to verify eligibility criteria including educational qualifications, age limit, and category certificates.

1. Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Candidates are tested for race running (men: 1600m in 6 minutes; women: 800m in 4 minutes). This is qualifying in nature and mandatory to clear.

1. Physical Standard Test (PST): Verification of height (men: 165 cm, women: 155 cm), chest (men: 81-86 cm expansion, women: not applicable), and weight requirements as per HP Police norms.

1. Written Examination: Computer-based objective type written test covering General Knowledge, Reasoning, Mathematics, Hindi, and General English. Only PET/PST qualified candidates are called.

1. Document Verification: Verification of all original documents including educational certificates, category certificates, domicile, character certificate, and other testimonials.

1. Medical Examination: Comprehensive medical examination to ensure physical and mental fitness for police duties. Includes vision test, hearing test, and general health assessment.

HP Police Constables have structured career progression opportunities through departmental promotions and examinations.
