Selection Procedure

The selection process consists of the following stages:

1. Preliminary Examination (Screening Test): An objective-type computer-based test covering General Knowledge, General Science, Mental Ability, and Current Affairs. This is qualifying in nature to shortlist candidates for mains examination.

1. Main Examination: A comprehensive written examination with both objective and descriptive questions covering General Studies, Bihar History & Geography, Administrative Knowledge, and Essay Writing. Marks obtained in mains are counted for final merit.

1. Physical Efficiency Test (PET): Shortlisted candidates must qualify physical fitness standards including running, high jump, and endurance tests. This is qualifying in nature (Pass/Fail).

1. Document Verification: Candidates qualifying PET must appear for original document verification including educational certificates, caste certificate, domicile certificate, and identity proof.

1. Medical Examination: Final shortlisted candidates undergo comprehensive medical examination to ensure physical and mental fitness for Home Guard duties.

1. Final Merit List: Based on marks obtained in Main Examination, final merit list is prepared category-wise and appointments are offered accordingly.

Home Guard Company Commanders can expect steady career progression within the Bihar Home Guard organization and Bihar Police department. Promotions are available to positions like Deputy Commandant and Commandant based on experience, performance, and departmental examinations. Officers may also get opportunities for deputation to other state departments or special assignments in disaster management and VIP security duties.

Admit cards for the preliminary examination will be released approximately 7-10 days before the scheduled exam date on the official BPSSC website. Candidates must download their admit cards by logging in with their registration credentials and must carry a printout along with valid photo ID proof to the examination centre. No entry will be allowed without a valid admit card.

Results for each stage (Prelims, Mains, PET) will be declared separately on the BPSSC official website. Preliminary exam results typically appear within 4-6 weeks, while final results after mains and PET are declared within 2-3 months. Candidates can check their results by entering registration number or roll number on the official portal, and scorecards can be downloaded for future reference.

Cutoff marks vary based on category and difficulty level of the examination. Typically, General category candidates need to score around 45-50% marks in Prelims and 50-55% in Mains to qualify. SC/ST candidates require approximately 35-40%, while OBC candidates need around 40-45%. Final selection cutoff depends on the number of vacancies and total candidates appearing.
