Selection Stages

1. Preliminary Written Examination: Objective-type multiple choice questions covering General Knowledge, General Science, Mathematics, Mental Ability, Hindi and English. This is a qualifying examination to shortlist candidates for skill test.

1. Skill Test (Stenography): Qualified candidates from preliminary exam will appear for stenography skill test. Candidates must demonstrate stenography speed of 80 words per minute in English or 100 words per minute in Hindi. Dictation duration is 10 minutes followed by transcription time of 50 minutes for English and 65 minutes for Hindi.

1. Typing Test: Computer typing test to assess typing speed and accuracy. Minimum speed requirement is 30 words per minute in English or 25 words per minute in Hindi on computer keyboard.

1. Document Verification: Candidates who successfully clear both skill test and typing test will be called for document verification. Original certificates of educational qualification, date of birth, category certificate, domicile certificate must be produced.

1. Medical Examination: Final selected candidates undergo medical examination to ensure physical and mental fitness for the post as per government norms.

1. Final Merit List: Final selection is based on combined performance in preliminary examination marks and skill test marks as per prescribed weightage. Selected candidates are appointed in order of merit.

After 5-8 years of service with good performance record, stenographers can be promoted to Personal Assistant (PA) or Senior Stenographer positions in Level 6 pay scale.
