Educational Qualification

For Junior Research Fellow (JRF):

• M.E./M.Tech or M.Sc. in relevant discipline with first class (60% or 6.0 CGPA)
• Valid GATE/NET/CSIR qualification (for fellowship positions)
• Candidates enrolled in PhD programs are also eligible

For Project Associate:

• B.E./B.Tech or M.Sc. in relevant discipline with first class

Junior Research Fellows typically progress to Senior Research Fellows (SRF) after 2 years with fellowship increase to ₹35,000-₹40,000 per month, subject to performance evaluation and PhD progress. Project Associates can transition to JRF positions upon enrolling in PhD programs or move to Research Associate roles with higher responsibilities and salary (₹40,000-₹54,000). Many candidates use these positions as stepping stones for doctoral studies at BITS Pilani or other premier institutions, while others transition to R&D roles in industry or academia after project completion.

BITS Pilani research positions do not follow a traditional admit card system as selection is primarily interview-based. Shortlisted candidates receive interview call letters via email 7-10 days before the scheduled interview date. The call letter contains details about the interview date, time, venue (or video conferencing link for online interviews), documents to be carried, and contact information of the project coordinator. Candidates must bring the interview call letter printout along with original documents for verification during the interview process.

Interview results are typically declared within 10-15 days of the interview completion. Selected candidates are informed individually via email and phone call by the Principal Investigator or project coordinator. The offer letter specifies joining date, fellowship amount, project duration, and terms of engagement. Candidates must confirm acceptance within the stipulated timeframe (usually 7 days) and complete joining formalities including document submission, medical examination, and signing of the fellowship/employment agreement. A waitlist may be maintained for candidates who decline offers.

BITS Pilani research positions do not have published cutoff marks as selection is primarily qualitative based on research aptitude, relevant experience, and interview performance. However, candidates with GATE scores above 600 (70th percentile) or valid CSIR-UGC NET/JRF qualification have significantly higher chances of selection. For Project Associate positions, candidates with first class degrees (60%+), relevant publications, and 1-2 years of research experience are preferred.
